I've just finished scoring this amazing new series for Showtime. The Hollywood Reporter says about my score : "And the antiseptic visuals, coupled with the droning score by Justin Melland, suggest Laura Poitras' Edward Snowden doc Citizenfour with a slightly pulpier edge.
We are now scoring season two for Showtime.
Oprah Winfrey presents “Belief,” a groundbreaking television event exploring humankind’s ongoing search to connect with something greater than ourselves. This original, seven-part series allows viewers to witness some of the world’s most fascinating beliefs through the eyes of the believer. Journeying to the far reaches of world, and inside places cameras have rarely been, the real stars of this special are the seven billion people here on earth whose ability to believe in things they can not see, touch or smell, provides comfort, healing and a sense of purpose.

LE GROS ORTEIL
This score was a joy to write, because I was able to adapt some of orchestral colors of Ravel and Debussy which were made popular by Bernard Herrmann when he worked on the famous Hitchcock films. The score was recorded with a full orchestra at Firehouse Studios in Pasadena, and I'm quite happy with the sound. One of most unique aspects of the production was writing the song Kisses and Hatchets with director Matt Quezada. I wrote the music and melody, and recorded myself humming the tune and the sent it to Matt and requested that he write some devilish lyrics in French. He wrote them, and then came into the studio to record the vocal and did a great job.

About The Score
This beautiful film was shot part in China and part in LA, and is a spooky story laden with the overwhelming suspense of asian horror films. I had the great pleasure of recording two fantastic soloists on the score: Fred Selden who did all the flute solos for The Last Samurai, on Bamboo Flutes, and Victor Lawrence, who played all the cello solos on The Changeling. As soon as the film is completed I'll have some video samples posted here.
